Rev.
Dr. Kenneth L. Saunders, Sr.
Rev. Dr. Kenneth L. Saunders, Sr., was born in Jersey City, NJ in the Margaret Hague Hospital.
He and his sisters and brothers were brought up in church, Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, on Forrest St.
He sang in the Youth Jubilee Choir and he loved it.
In fact, his love for music encouraged him and four other young men to organize a quartet, The Sunset Harmonizers.
The opportunity of ministering through song began a serious relationship between young Kenny and the Lord, Jesus Christ.
After graduation from High School he joined the U.S. Army where he served well and received an Honorable Discharge.
After the army, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until deciding to further his education by entering Newark College of Engineering.
During this time he felt a strong call upon his life and finally accepted the call to the Ministry.
Rev. Saunders served for a time in the Church of God In Christ and then returned to the A.M.E. Church where he was ordained Itinerant Elder in 1977.
Upon his ordination, he went to pastor in Bright's Temple A.M.E. Church, Warwick, Bermuda.
He married Sis. Shirley Harris in August of 1977.
After Bermuda, they were sent to Bethel A.M.E. Church in Madison, NJ, where they were blessed with a challenge for they found seven people there.
God's work went on and the church was built numerically and spiritually.
The Lord also blessed them with a son, Kenneth, Jr.
Eleven years later in 1989, they left the wonderful people of Bethel all 375 of them to come here to North Stelton in Piscataway.
For the past ten years, God has shown Himself to North Stelton in so many ways.
Rev. Saunders' kind, warm personality has given him favor not only in the connectional church, but in our community as well.
He presently serves as Councilman-at-Large and Police Chaplain of Piscataway Township.
Rev. Saunders is a seasoned community leader who possesses and demonstrates strong people skills when interacting within various situations.
He is widely recognized by his peers for his strategic thinking and is highly respected by religious and civic communities.
Rev. Saunders has earned many educational credentials, has served on numerous ecclesiastical boards and committees and has received many awards for
his community service and involvement, but the greatest thing that can be said about him is that he loves the Lord, he loves his family and the people
he serves with his whole heart.
