Rev.
Iola E. Davis, an ordained Elder in
the First Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is an
associate minister at North Stelton African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church
in Piscataway, New Jersey. Rev. Davis received her Master of Divinity degree
from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in May 2001. She is a graduate of
Adelphi University in Long Island, New York and holds a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Business Administration. Rev. Davis is a board certified Christian
Counselor, Department of Corrections Certified Mentor, and is working towards
her Doctorate of Ministry.
Under the pastoral
leadership of Rev. Dr. Kenneth L. Saunders, Sr., Rev. Davis holds the position
of Chief of Staff at North Stelton. She is the Ministerial Advisor for the
Usher Boards, Director of Pastoral Care, Director and Instructor for the New
Members Ministry, and Senior Coordinator Special Programs. She is a member of
the New Jersey Performing Arts Center Ministerial Advisory Board and alumni of
the New Brunswick Chapter of the Association of Black Seminarians and the
National Alliance of Pan African Seminarians. She is board member and
Administrative Secretary of the Associate Minister’s Economic Network (AMEN).
Rev. Davis
recently retired from The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey after 23
years of service. Within the context of her day-to-day activities, her ministry
continues as pastoral care giver, grief counselor and friend. Rev. Davis has
served as Chaplain through the Clinical Pastoral Education Program at John F.
Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. She is also the founder of Higher
Xpectations - a Ministry of Service, E.S.T.H.E.R. Ministries- an outreach
ministry to women, and Sistahs In Conversation With the Word - a monthly bible
study for women. For the past 12 years, Rev. Davis and her daughters have
hosted the Imani Sisterhood Gathering, a sisterly tradition of bringing in the
New Year.
Rev. Davis has two
daughters, Selina Davis-Peterson, who is a Physical Education and Nutrition
Instructor in the Elizabeth education system, and Terri Davis, author and
adjunct professor at both Rutgers and Kean Universities, and a doctoral
candidate for a PhD in Adult Education. She also has two beautiful
granddaughters, DeAzah and Aniyah, and one handsome grandson, Orlando.
